    Snoring Prevention  Sports Guards

Snoring can be a common problem for many people. Snoring affects more than 80 million people in North America alone! Thankfully, chronic snoring can be treated. Your dentist can provide a solution with a device. For example, we often find the solution with the Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD). This device will help lower the jaw and increase the airway passage space to help you breathe better and get a good nights sleep!

Whether you wear braces or not, protecting your smile while playing sports is essential. Mouthguards help protect your teeth and gums from injury. If you participate in any kind of full-contact sport, the Canadian Dental Association recommends you wear a mouthguard. Choosing the right mouthguard is essential. We are here to find the best fit that works for you!

    Sedation Dentistry

Imagine undergoing a complex dental treatment like a root canal, extraction, or oral surgery. After the treatment, you have no recollection of the time it took, the pain, the noise, or the discomfort you were expecting. We are pleased to offer our patients the option of comfortable, safe, and effective sedation dentistry.

Sedation dentistry allows your dentist to provide a variety of dental treatments safely and comfortably for patients who are anxious to visit the dentist. Sedation dentistry benefits include:

     - No memory of undergoing the procedure
     - No sense of time while under sedation
     - No sense of smell or sound
     - No fear or anxiety during treatment

    Oral Surgery Root Canals

In the past, if you had a tooth with a diseased nerve, you'd probably lose that tooth. Today, with a special dental procedure called “root canal treatment,” your tooth can be saved. When a tooth is cracked or has a deep cavity, bacteria can enter the pulp tissue and germs can cause an infection inside the tooth. If left untreated, an abscess may form. If the infected tissue is not removed, pain and swelling can result. This can not only injure your jawbones, but it is also detrimental to your overall health.

Root canal treatment involves one to three visits. During treatment, we will remove the affected tissue. Next, the interior of the tooth will be cleaned and sealed. Finally, the tooth is filled with a dental composite. If it has extensive decay, your doctor may suggest placing a crown to strengthen and protect the tooth from breaking. As long as you continue to care for your teeth and gums with regular brushing, flossing, and checkups, your restored tooth can last a lifetime!

    Invisalign  Orthodontics

At Southwood Dental, we offer a range of orthodontic solutions to help correct bites and jaw alignment. The overall goal is to get you the best function and cosmetic smile possible!

As a certified Invisalign provider, we want you to get the straight teeth you’ve always wanted! Using a series of virtual removable and comfortable aligners, we will improve your smile. Invisalign is non-disruptive treatment as you can still eat and drink what you want. Patients also find them comfortable because there is no fuss with wires! The aligners are worn for about two weeks and then switched out. Your teeth will move little by little, until they reach their optimal position. Every six weeks you’ll visit us to ensure your treatment is on track. Treatment time lasts approximately nine to fifteen months. Schedule an appointment with us to find out more about this treatment!

    Emergency Dental Care

For any dental emergencies, call our practice as soon as possible. If you require immediate attention after office hours, call our emergency number and our on-call staff will help. If you are unable to reach us during an emergency, call 911.

Common dental emergencies include: broken or cracked teeth, broken jaw, permanent tooth knocked out, object caught between teeth or a severe toothache. We are here to help!
    Dentures, Crowns Bridges

Dentures are removeable natural-looking replacement teeth. There are two types of dentures: full and partial. Full dentures are given to patients when all of the natural teeth have been removed. Partial dentures are attached to a metal frame connected to your natural teeth and are used to fill in where permanent teeth have been removed. Just like natural teeth, dentures need to be properly cared for.

Crowns are a cosmetic procedure used to improve your tooth’s shape or to strengthen a tooth. Crowns are most often used for teeth that are broken, worn, or have portions destroyed by tooth decay. A crown is a “cap” cemented onto an existing tooth that usually covers the portion of your tooth above the gum line. Essentially, the crown becomes your tooth’s new outer surface. They can be made of porcelain, metal, or both. Porcelain crowns are most often preferred because they mimic the translucency of natural teeth and are very strong.

A bridge may be used to replace missing teeth, help maintain the shape of your face, and alleviate stress on your bite. A bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth, looks great, and literally bridges the gap where one or more teeth may have been. Your bridge can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials and is bonded onto surrounding teeth for support.

    Dental Exams Cleaning/Preventitive

New patients and regular exams are essential to good oral health. During your exam we will:
    • Address Dental Concerns
    • Digital Xrays/Intra-oral Pictures (New Patients)
    • Check for cavities, tooth decay, gingivitis and periodontal disease
    • Perform thorough teeth cleaning

New patients exams are usually 90 minutes long. After your initial visit, we will recommend how often you should return for regular exams. A regular exam takes 45 minutes, which includes detailed cleaning, polishing and rinsing your teeth. Visit your dentist at least every six months to keep up your oral health.

Ensure you are keeping up with your oral hygiene, as preventitive dental care is important no matter what age!

    Cosmetic Dentistry  Impants

Your smile is a very important feature that should not be overlooked! Hesitating to smile? Want to look your best in your social and professional life? Currently have dental imperfections? The world of dentistry allows for advanced and evolving treatments to achieve a healthy and beautiful smile.

Cosmetic dentistry is a combination of both art and science. Our team uses smile enhancement, restoration and maintenance for the best dental health. We utilize cutting edge techniques to create the best smile for you.

Additionally, implants are a great way to solve missing teeth problems. Without all your teeth, chewing and eating can destabilize your bite and cause you discomfort. When teeth are missing, your mouth can shift and even cause your face to look older. Implants are anchored to the bone of your mouth and are also helpful to secure dentures.

We want you to feel confident about your appearance with a healthy and beautiful smile! Contact our practice to inquire about cosmetic dentistry today!
