Possible Orthodontic Problems & Solutions
If you’re starting your journey to achieving a perfect smile, that may involve orthodontic treatment (Including braces!) It is usually uncommon for an orthodontic emergency to occur, however, it can happen. Below are some of the scenarios that can occur with braces and how to solve them.
Loose Bracket: Brackets are commonly made of metal or ceramic pieces. These brackets are attached to your teeth, and sometimes, when you eat hard or chewy food, they can get loose. Usually, orthodontists or dentists give wax to prevent this. However, if the problem persists and affects your ability to eat and talk, you may need to see your orthodontist as soon as you can to have it fixed.
Loose Separators or Spacer: Spacers are rubber rings that are put between your teeth for a few days. In some cases, the separator can fall out of position. Call your orthodontist immediately and schedule an appointment to have your band replaced.
Loose or Broken Elastic Tie: This is the rubber band used with your braces. If it falls off or breaks, report it to your orthodontist as soon as possible.
Loose Bands: The metal rings that wrap around the back and front teeth are called bands. Bands serve as the anchor for your braces. When your bands start to become loose, you need to have it repositioned or cemented by your orthodontist.
Broken or Protruding Wire: If the wire of your braces protrudes or breaks in your mouth, you may need to push back the wire using a cotton swab. Don’t cut the wire yourself, just set an appointment with your orthodontist as soon as possible.
